My final FINAL design to Sednarah, my original kaiju - but not, necessarilly, the last time I draw him, OR the last time I work on this particular pic. I was just in a hurry and wanted to post it, finished or otherwise, so...here ya go!
-The chest was heavilly armored before, but now much more so. It and the back are extra thick to protect the central nucleus from being exposed or damaged. I've added several organelle-like subdivided nuclei, scattered throughout his body, which act as secondary brains for most of the major limbs, but can also break off as their own separate entities if the situation called for it. If an arm or the head were severed, it could reform itself into another SEDNARAH with enough time and energy.
-The scythe/slicer-arms are only gone FOR NOW. I'm working hard on seeing just what kind of weapons a giant amoeba-monster can think up to use on its arms. For those saying that it's a rip of Gigan from FINAL WARS - uh, you're mostly wrong. Until Sednarah can generate said limb-weapons, he has sharpened knuckles to hold him over in tooth-and-claw bouts with the Big G.
-The three or four shoulder-mounted pods are slightly reminiscent of Super- or Space-Godzilla: the original idea was that Sednarah took that genetic idea from the information it absorbed from Regenerator G-1 cells and used it to its aesthetic advantage. I like them, in any case. Similarly, there is a line of smaller Godzilla-like dorsal plates running the length of Sednarah's back that will fully mature into Pod stages and break loose later.
-I "fixed" his funky feet, which apparently was giving people panic attacks. "Too weird," was mentioned a lot. I currently hate the tail, but I've been told it gives the piece the feeling of blown-glass, which is EXACTLY what I wanted...but I still hate it.
-My personal favorite element about the piece...the battle-damage! The cracks and missing pieces, particulary the arm regenerating, make me feel like it was all worth it.
-Little plug for me...Sednarah has found new life outside of the Toho universe, God willing. I will be writing up an independent story behind the character that could very well give the kaiju its own series. Granted, I still have the GODZILLA VS. SEDNARAH story up and soon-to-be-running, but it's still my character...and he's gonna earn his keep. Keep your eyes open for Sednarah's solo romp, coming soon!
Sednarah was a big inspiration for me when creating my monster Jiragon. The story for Jiragon is basically the original American Godzilla script with a different monster. It still has a monster created by an ancient civilization from dinosaur genes (and in this case, organic weapons too) to defend the Earth from the an alien race that uses genetic doomsday probes in their conquering of the universe. What do you think?
I like the original GODZILLA script by Elliot and Rossio, but it felt more like a GAMERA origin story to me. I still would've taken it over ZILLA, though.
Thank you, I'm glad to hear Sednarah was an inspiration to you. In what way, if you don't mind me asking?
